Build and Deploy Your First Website

On 19th of January, 2019, a workshop titled “Build and Deploy your First Website” was conducted. The workshop was led by Harshil Agrawal. The content for the workshop was provided by Major League Hacking (MLH), a community first, mission driven organization, that support student hackathons and encourages student communities to grow. The workshop started by giving a brief introduction about HTML and CSS. The attendees were asked to do a check-in so that the workshop content and other resources could be shared with them. Before starting to cod the attendees were shown the website that they would get to build.

The boilerplate for the website was provided. Harshil, first explained the boilerplate code, which included tags like <head>, <body>, <title>, <meta>, <link>. After explaining these tags, the attendees were asked to add the about section and the portfolio section. The attendees also got to learn to add icons in their website. After the basic structure was created, the styling of the website was taught. The attendees learnt how to style their website using CSS. They changed the font color for their headings, resize the image, understood the flex display property and other various properties.

At the end of the workshop, Harshil showed a quick demo on how to deploy website on surge.sh. The attendees enjoyed the session and got a head start in web development.
